Workshop Description:
How can music be used as a tool to heal ourselves and others? What is music therapy and how can it be helpful in dealing with individuals with AD/HD? Aside from focusing on these questions, this workshop will serve as an introduction to Music Therapy. Resource persons will share their experiences in using music to heal individuals of different ages and from different walks of life. This is an experiential workshop where participants will be asked to undergo a music listening activity. Participants are requested to bring art materials: papers, crayons, etc.
Resource Persons:
Christopher Franz A. Carandang is a practicing clinical psychologist for the MLAC Institute for Children and Families. He uses music to heal and connect with his various clients including those who have undergone trauma, cancer survivors, and those who have been diagnosed as having Autism, Asperger’s Syndrome, and depression. He is also the music therapist of C.R.I.B.S. Foundation New Beginnings Center in Marikina where he conducts group music therapy sessions for the abandoned and abused adolescents. Chris also teaches Psychology courses in U.P. Diliman. He also composes and performs his own music.
Marisa V. Marin received her Bachelor’s Degree at The Catholic University of America in Washington DC in 1992 majored in psychology and minored in philosophy & religion. She later pursued her Masters Degree at the Ateneo de Manila University in Quezon City focusing on Child & Family Psychology. In the year 2000, she got an excellent mark in defending her MA thesis entitled, Exploring the Use of Music Therapy for Filipino Autistic Children and graduated on the same year. For 4 years (1996-2000) she became the attending psychologist of the Hematology Unit of Children’s Medical Center Philippines or presently known as the Dr. Fe Del Mundo General Hospital, dealing mostly with patients with leukemia and their families. In 1998, she joined the team of psychologists of Dra. Honey Carandang which is now known as the MLAC Institute for Children and Families. She is the music therapist of C.R.I.B.S. Foundation New Beginning Center in Marikina where she conducts group music therapy sessions for the abandoned and abused adolescents. Her passion will always be her love for music that’s why playing the piano, listening to various music genre, singing and composing songs is an innate gift and healing which she is eternally grateful to God.
